DVR vs. NVR: What’s the Difference?
The main difference between the two is that a DVR converts analog video footage into digital footage, whereas an NVR works with mostly digital video from beginning to end. DVR recording systems process data at the recorder, while NVR recording systems encode and process data at the camera before transmitting it to the recorder for storage and remote viewing. The DVR connects to an analog CCTV system and is an often overlooked home security option. Conversely, the NVR connects to an IP-based surveillance camera system over Ethernet or WiFi.
